Auto Electrical Repair & Diagnostics in Newington, CT

When your dash lights flicker, accessories cut out, or the engine won’t crank, the issue is often electrical. At Mike’s Auto Service, our ASE-certified techs use professional diagnostic tools to pinpoint faults quickly—so you get the right repair the first time.

Comprehensive Electrical Services We Offer

We inspect, diagnose, repair, and replace critical electrical components for all makes and models, restoring power, performance, and reliability:

  • Battery testing, replacement & registration – We’ll test your battery’s state of health, voltage, and cold-cranking amps. If replacement is needed, we install and register OEM-fit, AGM, or EFB batteries for proper system calibration.
  • Alternator testing, repair & replacement – If your battery light is on or headlights dim at idle, we’ll test your alternator’s output under load and replace it with a quality unit that keeps your system charging correctly.
  • Starter testing, repair & replacement – Intermittent or no-start issues can point to a failing starter motor or solenoid. We test for proper current draw and ensure clean connections before recommending a repair.
  • Wiring, connectors, fuses & relays – From shorts and broken leads to corroded connections, our technicians trace, repair, and replace damaged wiring to restore reliable electrical flow throughout your vehicle.
  • Parasitic draw testing & battery drain fixes – We locate and eliminate hidden drains caused by stuck relays, modules, or aftermarket accessories that can kill your battery overnight.
  • Charging & starting system diagnostics – We perform full-system voltage drop, amperage, and resistance tests to ensure your battery, alternator, and starter are working together as designed.
  • Power window, lock, lighting, and accessory repairs – If your accessories or interior electronics are acting up, we’ll diagnose the circuit and restore function to switches, motors, or modules.
  • Check engine light & warning light diagnostics – Many dash lights are triggered by voltage or ground issues. We identify whether the fault is mechanical or electrical before proceeding with a repair.

Common Signs You Need Electrical Service

  • Slow or no-start condition – A weak crank or complete silence when turning the key often points to battery, starter, or cable issues.
  • Dim or flickering headlights – Fluctuating light intensity usually means an alternator or voltage regulator issue.
  • Battery dies frequently – A parasitic draw or failing charging system can deplete your battery even when it’s new.
  • Electrical accessories malfunction – Intermittent or non-working windows, locks, or dashboard electronics signal deeper circuit or ground faults.
  • Burning smells or blown fuses – These are serious warning signs of overheating wires or short circuits that need immediate attention.

If you’re experiencing any of these issues, stop by for a quick electrical inspection. We’ll isolate the cause, walk you through the results, and fix it right the first time.

My A/C started blowing warm air and Honda quoted me $3800 to repair the condenser, A/C lines, O-rings, and recharge. I spoke to Trent and he advised me to bring my Honda Pilot in for him to asses and he was honest and thorough. Come to find out the A/C lines were fine and I was able to get my A/C fixed for $1500 and a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty thanks to Mike's Auto Repair. Will definitely be coming back for all my future repairs, great staff and service!

Whenever I call for an appointment for an oil change they were always there to serve us. If I needed a ride home I was able to get a ride home. I wouldn't go to any other auto mechanic then Mike's Auto.

Genuinely loved my experience initially went in for emission testing and the prompt service along with the technician being so pleasant convinced me that this is where I need to bring my vehicle . I had multiple problems with my vehicle and was kinda worried having it on the road but now OMG it’s the sweetest ride ever , it cost a pretty penny but it was worth it .10/10

I went for an emission test. It was a walk in, only 30 minutes before closing, and yet they helped me with a smile. Service was fast and professional. Very clean place, even their bathroom was spotless!

I’ve been a customer of Mike’s for years. One car is 26 years old and the other is 12 so they must be doing something right.

I can't say enough good things about this shop. I have brought my 4runner into them a few times. They just repaired my transmission lines by fabricating them, themselves. That says a lot about the effort they are willing to put in. As a car girl, myself i know those lines can be a royal pain! These guys are very honest and trustworthy. They don't treat me like a dummy being a woman as other places have tried to do to me in the past. They are very efficient and fair. I feel very confident with my vehicle in their hands. I will not go anywhere else for future work that may need to be done. I highly recommend them, always! Thank you to the wonderful team for getting my baby fixed timely! Appreciate all of you and the quality work you do.

Mike’s Auto is the only place I’ll bring my vehicle. I can’t recommend them enough! Colby was amazing. Not only did he save me nearly $15,000, but he also arranged and paid for Lyfts to and from my house without charging me a single cent. I recently brought my car in because the RPMs were spiking on the highway, and I also needed an oil change. They paid for a Lyft to take me home while they inspected the vehicle. After diagnosing the issue, Colby informed me that my powertrain was still under warranty and explained that the dealership would fix the problem and even perform the oil change at no cost. They easily could have completed the oil change I originally requested and charged me for it, but instead they were completely honest and pointed me in the right direction. Even though they didn’t charge me for anything, Colby still arranged and paid for another Lyft to bring me back to the shop. Their customer service is outstanding, and they’re truly an honest business that puts their customers first. If you’re looking for a trustworthy mechanic, Mike’s Auto is the place to go.
